Winter Market Vendor Spotlight: Kitsch and Fancy

Posted by | events, vendor spotlight | No Comments

VTGCLT is popping up on November 20th at The Fillmore Charlotte for the fifth annual Winter Market! Come out and spend the day shopping with over 60 of the region’s best vintage & handmade vendors. Admission to the market is $2 from 11am-6pm! Get in an hour early at 10am for $7 to get first pick of all the goods.

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome back Sophie of Kitsch and Fancy to the Vintage Charlotte Winter Market.  Kitsch and Fancy specializes in handmade, luxury bath and beauty products.  Here is Sophie with a little bit of the story behind the brand:

Kitsch and Fancy was created because of my love of luxury bath and beauty items but the lack of handmade soaps that offered beautiful, feminine packaging.  I have always collected soap dishes and love treating myself to a pretty soap to keep in each of my soap dishes.  Kitsch and Fancy offers lovely handmade products with an extra focus on feminine touches when it comes to scents, colors, and packaging.  I get so much enjoyment and personal satisfaction from the entire process: from coming up with ideas for products to creating them, and packaging them in my colorful studio.collectionEvery year, Kitsch and Fancy brings a few specialty items that are only available locally at Vintage Charlotte!  This year I will be offering a creamy, all-natural body butter featuring skin-nourishing shea butter and almond oil. soap All of my holiday soap scents are back this year including Balsam-fir, Cinnamon-clove, and Maple Honey & Molasses.  Last year, the dozen mini sampler bag was a huge hit and the perfect stocking stuffer!  A bag with a dozen wrapped mini soaps from my current seasonal collection, perfect to give as a gift as is or as mini stocking stuffers.bathtea_sprinkles-jpg il_570xn-341909977

We are really excited to welcome Jesse of Tarpin Vintage to his first Vintage Charlotte Market.  Tarpin Vintage specializes in modern, 20th century design.  Here is Jesse from Tarpin Vintage:

I grew up in New York and later moved to California before I decided, after extensive travel, to settle in the south. North Carolina has become my home. As kids me and my youngest brother loved to go to the thrift stores to see what cool items we could find. We preferred the thrift store clothes and later furniture that we could fix up as opposed to buying new.

img_4181img_4167Vintage has always been something I have been drawn to, and most of the time, the vintage pieces are of higher quality then what is mass produced today.img_4169I love good design wether it be in architecture or a piece of furniture. I like simple and well built pieces and am drawn to the early modern movement. Tarpin Vintage has become a collection of the pieces I find in my travels that are appealing to me. img_3602

Winter Market Vendor Spotlight: Carolina WDWRX

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome Matt of Carolina WDWRX (short for woodworks!) to his first Vintage Charlotte Market.  Carolina WDWRX specializes in custom, original woodworking, right here in Charlotte, NC.  Here is Matt from Carolina WDWRX with a little about childhood, inspiration and working alongside dad:

Growing up, I spent many a Saturday morning holding boards, steadying ladders, driving nails, and cleaning up sawdust for my dad’s various projects. While at the time, I probably would have preferred to watch cartoons or go back to bed, the skills I picked up along the way from my dad have proven to be invaluable.wdwrx-2Today, I gets the privilege of working alongside my dad in making the Carolina WDWRX items you’ll see at the market. Continuing to glean from my dad’s vast knowledge of woodworking (and occasionally even getting to teach him a thing or two!) not only allows us to deliver top notch quality items, but to pass on what is truly becoming a lost art.wdwrx-4 wdwrx-1Our inspiration is nature, preferring when possible to keep the original aesthetic of the wood. You’ll rarely see any heavily stained / dyed wood, and we keep the live/natural edges intact whenever possible. We blend that raw / natural aesthetic with modern/industrial elements to create pieces that we hope will exceed your expectations for form and function.screen-shot-2016-11-07-at-8-18-28-am screen-shot-2016-11-07-at-8-19-32-am

This lamp is made from a block of Cherry wood from a tree downed in Charlotte during Hurricane Hugo in 1989, which was cut by chainsaw by my father. The wood has been drying in storage in  for almost 27 years.  The block is roughly 2 inches thick, and left in it’s natural color, with only semi gloss polyurethane applied for protection. Featuring a vintage style “Edison” bulb, and a telecaster style on / off knob.
