Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome Laurie Caffery to her first Vintage Charlotte Summer Market. Laura Caffery creates functional ceramics with whimsical illustrations of home. Here is Laurie with a little about her process and a sneak peak of what she is bringing to market:

I have always planned to be an artist, but as a child I was much more interested in drawing and painting. I took ceramics in high school and enjoyed it very much, but did not see it as a path I was interested in. Freshman year of college I took a beginner wheel throwing class, and although I had worked on the wheel many times before a switch flipped and I was completely hooked. From then on I couldn’t imagine working with any medium other than clay.
My work is inspired by the concepts of finding home and belonging. I explore these themes through narrative and whimsical scenes on functional pottery to elicit the feeling of place. I grew up living in and exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, so my drawings often reference these areas that I am most comfortable in.
My absolute favorite thing about clay is that there is always more to learn. I am learning about new techniques, methods, and materials in ceramics all the time and it is so exciting. It keeps me engaged in the medium as I push my work forward.

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome Barbara and Ben of Marquee Market to their first Vintage Charlotte Summer Market.  Marquee Market specializes in making light up marquee letters and signs, here is Barbara with a little of their backstory:
My husband Ben and I started Marquee Market shortly after we got married in June 2013. We had made LOVE and BAR light up signs for our own wedding, and left behind the BAR sign at the venue for the coordinator to use for future events. Shortly after our wedding, the event coordinator contacted me and had a handful of clients who wanted custom signs for their own events, so we decided to open up an Etsy shop and started taking custom orders. One year later, we were relocating from Detroit to Charlotte for Ben’s job, and business from Marquee Market had surpassed my salary at my 9-5 job.  Since moving to Charlotte we have been able to grow Marquee Market and make it my full time job 🙂

We make marquee signs from scratch, but have also recently started to upcycle vintage metal signs. The crown and anchor are items that we have scored at antique shops in North Carolina, that we then drilled lights into to make into fun light up pieces.
