THE SUMMER MARKET VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: Beautiful Idiot Clothing

Posted by | events, vendor spotlight | No Comments

Our vendor spotlight posts give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors before the Vintage Charlotte Summer Market on June 14, 2014 at The Fillmore Charlotte.

It is no secret that we are pretty much obsessed with everything that local designer Beautiful Idiot Clothing makes, here is Hollie talking about how it all started and what they are bringing to market:

We started out making adorable outfits for the little ones, as Rosie and Pepe. One day we finally realized that we could create wonderful pieces for adults, inspired by a style we would want to wear ourselves. With my background in fashion, we began to make prototype dresses and hand painted zip pouches. Perfect pieces for a night out in Plaza Midwood!

IMG_3468Anthony, feeling left out, suggested we try to make unique skinny ties. The first fabric we used in the process was actually an up-cycled plaid pajama set from Anthony’s brother. We now try to hunt down awesome fabrics from thrift stores, and closets alike, for most of our unique ties. Beautiful Idiot Clothing is beyond ecstatic to bring these styles to the VTGCLT Summer Market!

I am also in the process of making some great crocheted items.  I have been crocheting since I was a little girl and thought it would be a great time to share that craft for the winter show.  I will have slouchie beanies in great fall/winter colors, head wraps, infinity scarves (seen in picture), and fingerless gloves.

I will also have my most popular Christmas item — my single letter monogram ornaments.  I will have them made from wood (they smell like camp fire which I think is everyone’s favorite part about them) in red, antique white, green, and a natural wood.  I have also decided to make them out of red acrylic this year which has been a really popular seller as well.

THE HOLIDAY MARKET VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: All Mapped Out

Our vendor spotlight posts give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors before the Vintage Charlotte Holiday Market on November 16, 2013 at The Fillmore Charlotte.

Please welcome Candice from All Mapped Out:

My name is Candice and I’m a recovering academic.  After earning a PhD in Geography, I found that all I really wanted to do was ‘make stuff’.  So, armed with formal training as a cartographer and informal training as a picker/collector of vintage wares (under the tutelage of my awesome parents), I took on the new creative path of All Mapped Out in 2012, designing and making geography and cartography inspired home décor and apparel.

I now have a reason to horde maps and atlases and I take full advantage of it!  I repurpose ‘outdated’ and vintage maps into coaster sets, using actual maps thoroughly sealed onto ceramic tiles to create one-of-a-kind items of places and themes all over the world.

I also design geography-inspired t-shirts for the map nerd in all of us as well as original designs screenprinted onto vintage maps for one-of-a-kind wall art.

My goal is to teach my love of geography and cartography outside of the classroom through my products while helping folks add a sense of place to their space.  Bottom line, I’m a huge map nerd and would love to help you find ‘where’ you’re looking for!

The Summer Market Vendor Spotlight: Sweet Southern Purl

Our vendor spotlight posts give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors before the Vintage Charlotte Summer Market on June 29th, 2013 at The Fillmore Charlotte.
Please welcome Martha from Sweet Southern Purl:

It’s inevitable when you’re pregnant. Most people compulsively clean…getting ready for the upcoming baby.

Not me.

Nope…I decided at 6 months pregnant to teach myself to knit.  I had dabbled in crocheting.  I knew a few stitches but couldn’t follow a pattern to save my life.  Regardless…I figure, I got this.  So I dig out some ridiculously huge knitting needles I somehow had, google “how to cast on”, and three hours later (after then googling “how to cast on for children”), I had done it.  I then googled knitting stitches and practiced as many as I could.  After that I was ready to tackle my first project.

Now most people would have started with something simple…maybe a scarf.  What do I decide to start with…a baby sweater.  It took me probably two weeks and a lot of advice on knitting forums…but I finished.  It was full of mistakes, and the sleeves are crazy long, but it was my first piece…and I’m keeping it.  Forever.

The rest is pretty much history.  After a couple more projects people were asking me to open an etsy shop.  I hesitated because who opens a knitting shop after teaching themselves how to knit the month before?  I caved around Halloween of last year…and less than a month later I had a 30 order backlog.  I even knit in labor.  It’s been a challenge knitting with a 2 year old and a baby, but I’ve found my groove.  I love finding new things to create, and I’m beyond excited to be a first time vendor at Vintage Charlotte.
