Posted by | vendor spotlight | No Comments

VTGCLT is popping up on June 18th at 514 N. College Street for the fifth annual Summer Market! Come out and spend the day shopping with over 60 of the region’s best vintage & handmade vendors. Admission to the market is FREE from 11am-6pm! Get in an hour early at 10am for $5 to get first pick of all the goods.

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome Sara of Original Brooks to her first Vintage Charlotte Market.  We just love these beautiful hand-sewn notebooks and can’t wait to see them in person at the Summer Market, here is Sara with a little about her process:
original brooksPrimarily self-taught as a bookbinder, I learned the fine craft of bookbinding while studying photography at the University of Oklahoma. But it was not until moving to Asheville in 2011 that my interest in bookmaking became serious. My bookmaking practice combines traditional bookbinding techniques and a modern approach to design. My handmade books incorporate vintage materials with clean designs. I am inspired by mid-century modern furniture and architecture and 1970’s floral motifs.

Buying materials for my books is an excuse to go to thrifting. I can find interesting paper and cool vintage fabrics inexpensively. Using recycled materials not only make my books very unique (often one-of-a-kind) but also affordable for my customers. I feel good knowing that I am conserving resources and often saving materials bound for the landfill. For instance, I found a huge box of old, dated church programs that had no real use anymore. I was able to salvage part of the paper and create about 50 notebooks. I love the challenge of looking at a material and figuring out a creative re-use for it.Covers1 Brooks1
