I am also in the process of making some great crocheted items.  I have been crocheting since I was a little girl and thought it would be a great time to share that craft for the winter show.  I will have slouchie beanies in great fall/winter colors, head wraps, infinity scarves (seen in picture), and fingerless gloves.

I will also have my most popular Christmas item — my single letter monogram ornaments.  I will have them made from wood (they smell like camp fire which I think is everyone’s favorite part about them) in red, antique white, green, and a natural wood.  I have also decided to make them out of red acrylic this year which has been a really popular seller as well.

MOD Bettie presents: SWANKY VINTAGE GIFT GIVING // PART 1-MAKE IT PERSONAL

Posted by | vendor spotlight | No Comments

Mod Bettie, one of our amazing vendors from the Vintage Charlotte Holiday Market is here to let you know how to give vintage this holiday season!  Please welcome Donna from Modbettie:

It’s that time of year again….time to start thinking about gift giving!

Too early, you say? Halloween is hardly over, you say?  Hey, unique gift giving requires some thought and planning, and Mod Bettie is here to help you figure out how to give a gift that is thoughtful, personal and has some authentic history wrapped in TO BOOT! Plus, if you’re giving vintage you may need a little extra time to plan trips to some of those secret outlying antique/vintage stores to do your shopping!

Admittedly for this first group of ideas you may have to do some sneaky sleuthing to find out a few things before you start your vintage hunt for your beloved giftee, but being sneaky is fun, right? Here are a few ideas to get you going. In the end, you’ll win most creative gift giver of the holiday season!

ModBettie Vintage Gift Giving Tip 1: Use the dates to make it personal.

Many vintage items are dated, and if you can find out the birth year or anniversary year or any other important year to your giftee…the world of vintage gift giving will open up of you and you can personalize the gift using the date.

Easily found vintage items with dates that I love to own and to gift: tea towel calendars, calendar plates, figurines (look on the underside of the item for the date) and books! You’ll probably score a gift giver gold star for this one: a vintage version of a favorite book in a special year for the giftee.  The copyright dates for books are usually on first few pages.

ModBettie Vintage Gift Giving Tip 2: Keep family history and memories alive via items.

Have you ever been in an antique or vintage store, placed your eyes on an item and been immediately transported back in time to your favorite relative’s house with a fond memory? Whether it’s your mother’s china pattern, your grandma’s cookie jar or tea pitcher, that favorite book (Books again! Can you tell I love to give and receive books? ) your aunt used to read to you…the item is just the carrier and the memory is the true gift! A walk through your local antique shop may be all it takes to find out this kind of info from your giftee…people typically can’t contain themselves when they see something from their past. Make mental notes and go back and grab!

ModBettie Vintage Gift Giving Tip 3: Locale is key!

Places hold history and personal memories for people as well. Many vintage items can be found with cities, states and countries on them that can hold significance for your giftee. Birthplace, hometown, formative years, college town, favorite vacation spot, favorite sports team…these can be found on vintage mugs, plates, glassware, postcards etc. A vintage map of a significant city or picture of a special place to the recipient can also be a great gift. This may be more of a vintage hunt to track down these specific items- but if you feel up for the challenge-just keep your eyes peeled and start looking-you’ll be surprised at what you can find!

Being a vintage gift giver is a unique and fun way to show people that you are truly interested in the things that are meaningful to them and it’s green, because you are recycling items. So come and join us at The Vintage Charlotte Holiday Market and check some items off of your list!

THE HOLIDAY MARKET VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: All Mapped Out

Posted by | vendor spotlight | No Comments

Our vendor spotlight posts give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors before the Vintage Charlotte Holiday Market on November 16, 2013 at The Fillmore Charlotte.

Please welcome Candice from All Mapped Out:

My name is Candice and I’m a recovering academic.  After earning a PhD in Geography, I found that all I really wanted to do was ‘make stuff’.  So, armed with formal training as a cartographer and informal training as a picker/collector of vintage wares (under the tutelage of my awesome parents), I took on the new creative path of All Mapped Out in 2012, designing and making geography and cartography inspired home décor and apparel.

I now have a reason to horde maps and atlases and I take full advantage of it!  I repurpose ‘outdated’ and vintage maps into coaster sets, using actual maps thoroughly sealed onto ceramic tiles to create one-of-a-kind items of places and themes all over the world.

All Mapped Out

I also design geography-inspired t-shirts for the map nerd in all of us as well as original designs screenprinted onto vintage maps for one-of-a-kind wall art.

All Mapped Out

All Mapped Out

My goal is to teach my love of geography and cartography outside of the classroom through my products while helping folks add a sense of place to their space.  Bottom line, I’m a huge map nerd and would love to help you find ‘where’ you’re looking for!

THE HOLIDAY MARKET VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: BLY DESIGNS

Posted by | vendor spotlight | No Comments

Our vendor spotlight posts give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors before the Vintage Charlotte Holiday Market on November 16, 2013 at The Fillmore Charlotte.

Please welcome Katie from BlyDesign:

With a background in classical piano, I have always had an artistic, creative spirit. I discovered my passion for jewelry design after coming across some old, chandelier crystals in my late Grandmother’s house. I was struck by the beauty of each crystal and yearned to create a necklace that would keep one of the crystals close to my heart.

BlyDesign

Over the years, I began refining my techniques in metal work and was overwhelmed by the response to my designs from my friends and family. I decided to launch Blydesign in 2009 as a way to make my pieces accessible to my fans.

BlyDesign

Each piece of jewelry is carefully, handcrafted and distributed by myself in my hometown studio located in Charlotte, NC. Some of my favorite materials to work with are resin, brass, and leather.

Blydesign has been featured in Vogue, Shape and several Charlotte publications. The line is currently for sale in stores and boutiques in the Southeast, as well as online.
