Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome Katie of Waxing Gibbous Pottery to her first Vintage Charlotte Summer Market. Waxing Gibbous Pottery is a handmade ceramics shop, here is Katie with a little about her process:
I make ceramic objects for everyday use that capture a memory or a daydream of an exotic place. The time I have spent in the homes of Mexican immigrants and in the tiled rooms of Spain and Morocco has nudged my aesthetic toward bold folk imagery and geometric patterns. I am currently obsessed with Moroccan “zellige” tile mosaics and the palm fronds I saw all over Costa Rica.I convert images from my travel photographs into paper stencils and silkscreen patterns which are then applied using slip and underglaze to wheel thrown and handbuilt pots. The images transfer imperfectly to the surface of the pot, hinting of worn plaster walls and peeling paint. I work primarily in earthenware which uses less energy to fire and produces bright colors in clay and glazes. My forms are sturdy and comfortable, designed for the daily grind but reminiscent of a faraway place.
