Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are excited to welcome O&Y Studio to the Vintage Charlotte Winter Market. O&Y Studio is a Charlotte maker with a unique method of crocheting into embroidery hoops. Here is Andy with an introduction to her brand, and a sneak peek at a few special items that will be available at the Winter Market:

I have been a maker almost all my life. Growing up in South Africa, my mom put knitting needles in my hands at age 4, and she presented me with my first sewing machine at age 11. From then on I knitted and sewed my own clothes, taught myself to crochet and pursued anything artsy and crafty I could lay my hands on. I developed a love for smocking, hand-sewing and embroidery and later owned a smocking shop.

I now enjoy freehand stitching floral and botanical designs with specialty wool threads on a crochet. When I travel, I love to share my myriad photos (many of which are of flowers) and to bring back interesting wool and mohair yarns for new creations. I create my embroideries in an array of colors and sizes; plus a selection of Christmas ornaments will be available this year!

Winter Market Vendor Spotlight: Posy

VTGCLT is popping up on November 18th at The Fillmore for the sixth annual Winter Market! Come out and spend the day shopping with over 60 of the region’s best vintage & handmade vendors.  $2 general admission 11am-5pm.  Want to have first pick at all the goodies? We offer $7 early bird entry at 10am.

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome Laura from Posy to her first Vintage Charlotte Winter Market. Posy specializes in quality, personal, and purposeful vintage goods. Here is Laura with some of her favorite customer stories and a sneak peak of what she is bringing to market:

At a recent market, I met a new customer, Joshua, who was interested in a 1970’s world globe. He ends up buying it and comes back for his purchase toward the end of the event, saying, “You know how you buy something, and you feel immediate remorse, wondering why you bought that thing? This isn’t one of those times! I love this globe and will keep it forever!” His joy at finding something meaningful was so uplifting! Much like the guy who bought dominoes for his uncle who’d just taught him to play. Or the customer who bought a drinking glass from the World Fair in NYC because he’d been there, the year the glass stated, and had fallen into the fountain, only to have his dad jump in and rescue him. And I love the instance a customer bought a yellow and red floral recipe box because it’s the same one his mom had, and he stayed in my booth texting all his siblings to confirm and share in the excitement.

Posy started off as a love for vintage and has morphed into a matchmaking service, pairing folks with an item that has true meaning to them!

Winter Market Vendor Spotlight: Sans Map Bags

Posted by | vendor spotlight | No Comments

VTG CLT is popping up on November 15th at The Fillmore for the fourth annual Winter Market! Come out and spend the day shopping with over 60 of the region’s best vintage & handmade vendors. Admission to the market is FREE from 11am-6pm! Get in an hour early at 10am for $5 to get first pick of all the goods.

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome back Corey from Sans Map Bags to the Vintage Charlotte Winter Market. We are in love with her sophisticated, dreamy totes and bags. Here is Corey with her story and some sneak peeks of what she’s bringing to market:

sans map bags

The name Sans Map comes from the French word Sans, meaning ‘without’, and the English word Map. It all began several years ago while I was searching for vintage furniture after my husband and I moved back from living abroad in his hometown in the south of France. I happened to stumble across a beautiful vintage Italian-made Necchi sewing machine and even though I had no idea how to sew, and really no use for it at the time, felt an undeniable need to make it mine.  Twenty dollars, a professional tune-up, lots of googling and many broken needles later, my fingers were zooming down a road that would eventually lead to me creating Sans Map Bags.

sans map bags

I am intentional in my use of repurposed vintage garments, vintage fabrics, reclaimed materials and natural fibers and organic/recycled fabrics. Focused on small batch and limited run editions, I incorporate original stitching and seams, pockets, and natural leather imperfections into my work which lends to the unique quality of my bags. All of the creating magic happens in my home studio here in Charlotte, NC. After trading busy city life in Brooklyn, NY for sunnier days in the south, I continue to draw on my surroundings as inspiration. A traveller and a dreamer, I find endless beauty in the complexity of cities and the simplicity of nature. Sans Map is my philosophy: living life as it comes, taking the uncharted path and embracing the unexpected. Living life without a map…

Winter Market – Food For Thought!

Posted by | events | No Comments

We are now just a few days away from the 2014 Vintage Charlotte Winter Market. We have worked tirelessly to make sure we have thought of everything to make your market experience phenomenal. While there are few things that top market shopping, I’ve got to say that market shopping with delicious gourmet food in-hand takes the cake. Below are this season’s food vendors and some of their best offerings:

Queen Charlotte’s Pimento Cheese-
With each batch made and packed by Charlotte natives, this southern classic has taken a delicious turn that has taken the city by storm. With all batches gluten-free, this pimento cheese is the perfect market snack for most everyone. In addition to their original blend, Queen Charlotte’s Pimento Cheese also offers both a spicy and blue cheese blend.  Word on the street is that they are releasing their Bacon blend the day of the market!
Liz’s Pick – Original. If you haven’t had this before, start with the basics and work your way up. It will not disappoint.

Atlanta born and Charlotte bred King of Pops continues to delight the city from markets to street corners with their carts of hand-made original recipe popsicles. With flavors ranging from fresh fruit to classic desserts (like pumpkin pie and banana pudding, to name a few), King of Pops is a definite crowd pleaser.
Liz’s Pick – Pumpkin flavored anything. This is sure to get us all in the mood for the holiday season

Liz’s Pick – barbecue sundae. Layers of meat, beans, slaw, and Mac and cheese, all in a sundae cup. It’s heaven.

Chef Tara, who you may recognize from Herban Legend food truck, has set sail on her own culinary ventures to bring us creative foods from local pesticide and hormone-free sources. Tara’s creative flavor profiles and thought-out menu have made her a quick success in her few short months of business.
Liz’s Pick – Spicy Goat Grilled Cheese. Goat cheese, Swiss cheese, pepper jelly and mixed greens. Perfect.

Nicole Lee Confections-
Who doesn’t love cookies? Seriously. Lisa Childers loved them so much she left a career in medicine to follow her passion for baking and decorating. Lisa will have tons of cookies to choose from and you can bet they will be as delicious as they are beautiful.
Liz’s Pick – Cookie Gift Baskets. You would officially be everyone’s best friend.

Vendor Collaboration Makes Us Smile!

Posted by | events, vendor spotlight | No Comments

Many of you have probably already seen our event poster for The Winter Market, if not, see below!  It is so awesome and we love it so much.  This poster is the direct result of collaboration between a couple of very talented ladies (and also VENDORS!)

vintage charlotte winter market

We thought it would be fun to show you a behind the scenes of how this poster was made!  First, the ever talented Brellyn from Vintage Concord designed the poster digitally.  Then, Kristen of Havok Designs laser cut the design out of paper. Next, Brellyn and Vintage Charlotte’s very own Amy styled and photographed the laser cut paper.  Last but not least, Brellyn brought it full circle and rounded it out with some digital post production.  The end result is a beautiful and oh so unique poster that just screams Vintage Charlotte!

vintage charlotte winter Because these ladies are so talented (and did we mention VENDORS at the Winter Market!?!?)  We wanted to take a minute and show you a sneak peak of what they will be bringing with them to market.

Let’s start with Vintage Concord!  Vintage Concord has been vending with us for a while now and they never disappoint!  This year, Brellyn will be bringing her beautifully curated selection of vintage finds, her ever popular letter-pressed paper goods and a little birdie told us she’s been busy creating one of a kind notebooks from vintage ephemera.  But really just check out these photos because #swoon.

This is going to be Kristen from Havok Design‘s very first Vintage Charlotte market and we just cannot wait to see all of her laser cut lovelies in person.  Check out these samples of her amazing work, many of these items are brand spanking new and your first chance to buy them is at the Winter Market:

Our vendor spotlights are a great way to get to know some of our vendors before our Winter Market on November 15th at The Fillmore Charlotte. We are excited to welcome a collaboration booth featuring Eagle + Arrow and Good Grief Vintage to this season’s market.  Read on to hear from Abi and Misha about their businesses and what they are bringing with them to the market:

Screen Shot 2014-11-03 at 12.01.39 PMAbi: Eagle and Arrow is a collection of bags made from responsibly resourced leather.  I love the look, feel and longevity of leather but I think it’s important not to support factory farming. Because of this model, no bag will ever be the same. Most of the leather I get is just small pieces, so once I have a color I probably won’t have it again.I’m going to have some little bags for kids to keep tiny treasures in. Also, after many request I’m going to make fanny packs!! I’ve been sewing since I was 10, it’s my art. I never use patterns, and always try to let the material speak for itself.Screen Shot 2014-11-03 at 11.25.43 AM Screen Shot 2014-11-03 at 11.24.59 AM Screen Shot 2014-11-03 at 11.25.27 AM
Misha: Good Grief Vintage is a globally infused, Woodstock-inspired, 90s-loving, modernly styled online and pop-up vintage clothes and accessory shop.
Abi: Misha and I are also going to do a collection of updated vintage clothes!
