EASY VINTAGE GIFT GIVING IDEAS FROM MOD BETTIE

Posted by | events, vendor spotlight | No Comments

Mod Bettie aka Donna Scott has got to be one of the most thoughtful and creative vendors when it comes to merchandising.  Here she is sharing her top gift giving tips and tricks for how to delight anyone’s Holidays with a little bit of vintage:

It’s time to start thinking about vintage gift giving and as usual, you have a long list, right? Let me pass along my top quick and easy and memorable vintage gifting ideas so you can check some of those names off your list- pronto!

1.Vintage Trays and Tins

Everyone loves to receive your baked goods around the holidays…why not gift them in or on a reusable vintage tin or tray? It makes a beautiful and more memorable presentation than tissue or bags and can be used continually throughout the holidays!

2. Vintage Ornaments

Of course I love these for their traditional use on the tree but they make such a heartwarming presentation when attached to gifts, used at table place settings/ or centerpieces, around the buffet table or even given as party favors throughout the holidays.

Ornaments can be used to decorate gifts and add a vintage touch.

3.Vintage Mugs

These make an adorable presentation when gifted with tea, hot cocoa, candy or vintage linens. Vintage soup mugs can be gifted with gourmet crackers or bags of soup mix.

4. Vintage Cocktail Glasses

Want to bring the best hostess gift at your next party? Vintage Champagne coupes with a bottle of bubbly will do the trick, every time…trust me! See also: vintage pilsners or mugs with a local craft beer, or some swanky lowballs with a favorite liquor- both an equally fab option.

mag+pieMag+Pie was new on the scene in January 2014, but not new to the handmade world. Featuring classic design with a modern and comfy twist for even the tiniest fashion forward babes.

Vendor Collaboration Makes Us Smile!

Many of you have probably already seen our event poster for The Winter Market, if not, see below!  It is so awesome and we love it so much.  This poster is the direct result of collaboration between a couple of very talented ladies (and also VENDORS!)

We thought it would be fun to show you a behind the scenes of how this poster was made!  First, the ever talented Brellyn from Vintage Concord designed the poster digitally.  Then, Kristen of Havok Designs laser cut the design out of paper. Next, Brellyn and Vintage Charlotte’s very own Amy styled and photographed the laser cut paper.  Last but not least, Brellyn brought it full circle and rounded it out with some digital post production.  The end result is a beautiful and oh so unique poster that just screams Vintage Charlotte!

vintage charlotte winter Because these ladies are so talented (and did we mention VENDORS at the Winter Market!?!?)  We wanted to take a minute and show you a sneak peak of what they will be bringing with them to market.

Let’s start with Vintage Concord!  Vintage Concord has been vending with us for a while now and they never disappoint!  This year, Brellyn will be bringing her beautifully curated selection of vintage finds, her ever popular letter-pressed paper goods and a little birdie told us she’s been busy creating one of a kind notebooks from vintage ephemera.  But really just check out these photos because #swoon.

This is going to be Kristen from Havok Design‘s very first Vintage Charlotte market and we just cannot wait to see all of her laser cut lovelies in person.  Check out these samples of her amazing work, many of these items are brand spanking new and your first chance to buy them is at the Winter Market:

Screen Shot 2014-11-03 at 12.01.39 PMAbi: Eagle and Arrow is a collection of bags made from responsibly resourced leather.  I love the look, feel and longevity of leather but I think it’s important not to support factory farming. Because of this model, no bag will ever be the same. Most of the leather I get is just small pieces, so once I have a color I probably won’t have it again.I’m going to have some little bags for kids to keep tiny treasures in. Also, after many request I’m going to make fanny packs!! I’ve been sewing since I was 10, it’s my art. I never use patterns, and always try to let the material speak for itself.Screen Shot 2014-11-03 at 11.25.43 AM Screen Shot 2014-11-03 at 11.24.59 AM Screen Shot 2014-11-03 at 11.25.27 AM
Misha: Good Grief Vintage is a globally infused, Woodstock-inspired, 90s-loving, modernly styled online and pop-up vintage clothes and accessory shop.
Abi: Misha and I are also going to do a collection of updated vintage clothes!

WINTER MARKET VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: Laura Wood Studios

Our vendor spotlight posts give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors before the Vintage Charlotte Winter Market on November 15, 2014 at The Fillmore Charlotte.  We are really excited to welcome back Laura Wood from Laura Wood Studios, here is a sneak peak of her process and some of the jewelry she will be bringing with her to market:

laura wood

I choose jewelry to express my creative interests, and for many years, this has been a fascination with the body. I began my career in the arts studying dance. This led me to making adornment for the body, activating pleasure and enjoyment through wearing. Each piece is very much an effort in creating body-conscious work. Material exploration and the lineage of jewelry history also inspire me to challenge myself in the work while evolving alongside a world with new technology and processes. I strive to enhance the silhouette of the body and create work to be worn as a celebration of performance and adornment.

WINTER MARKET VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: Studio{1859}

Posted by | events, vendor spotlight | No Comments

Our vendor spotlight posts give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors before the Vintage Charlotte Winter Market on November 15, 2014 at The Fillmore Charlotte.  We are really excited to welcome back STUDIO{1859}, here is Megan talking about how it all started and some sneak peaks of all the crochet lovelies she is bringing to the market:

studio{1859}

STUDIO{1859} began in 2012 after encouragement from family and friends to begin selling the crochet accessories I had been making for others as gifts. Since first learning to crochet 10 years ago I haven’t been able to put down the yarn. I believe crocheting is becoming a lost art and I enjoy keeping it alive in more ways than just hats and scarves. In college I studied Textile Engineering and my day job is working in a chemistry lab but my lunch breaks and evenings are filled with crocheting.  My shop is mainly filled with crochet goods for babies and toddlers all made in my home studio (aka 1859 – my house number). I have recently added a line of baskets, bowls and home decor crocheted with fabric yarn that is made from recycled textile manufacturing scraps. I have a passion for creating and love coming up with ways to incorporate yarn into everyday life because it shouldn’t be reserved just for winter!

WINTER MARKET VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: Sable & Gray

Posted by | events, vendor spotlight | No Comments

Our vendor spotlight posts give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors before the Vintage Charlotte Winter Market on November 15, 2014 at The Fillmore Charlotte.  We are really excited to welcome Sable & Gray to her first Vintage Charlotte market, here is Kristin talking about how it all started and some sneak peaks of her lovely stationary that will be coming with her to the market:

Kristin Hussey - Head Shot 2 bw

I always thought I wanted to be an Architect. I loved the idea of spending my days sketching and watercoloring houses from my imagination, and building models of someone’s dream home out of little bits of wood. After studying my toosh off and graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Architecture, I stepped off of campus and into the real world only to find that, during my time in school, architecture had become a computer-driven career. Where had the watercolors gone!?? Where were my detailed hand-made models!?? I realized that, unless I wanted to spend my days staring at a computer screen, it was time to reevaluate my career path and find something that I could really be artistic with; something that I loved.

I found that love in stationery. I am now able to spend my time doing the things that bring me joy… sketching, watercoloring, letterpressing, and calligraphy-ing. (I may have just made that word up) And these things not only bring me joy, they also bring joy to every person who receives them. I mean, what is better than opening the mailbox to see your name written in script across a colorful envelope? That’s SO much better than getting another email in your inbox or a “like” on facebook.

Popped the Question - sable & grayDad, You Are My Father

So I may not be the architect that I always thought I’d be, but that doesn’t mean I’m not doing what I love. Creating custom stationery makes me so very happy, and I hope to share that happiness with every person who opens their mailbox to see a beautiful, hand-made card or invitation from Sable & Gray.

Oh My Darling sable & gray
