We are really excited to welcome Jesse of Tarpin Vintage to his first Vintage Charlotte Market. Tarpin Vintage specializes in modern, 20th century design. Here is Jesse from Tarpin Vintage:
I grew up in New York and later moved to California before I decided, after extensive travel, to settle in the south. North Carolina has become my home. As kids me and my youngest brother loved to go to the thrift stores to see what cool items we could find. We preferred the thrift store clothes and later furniture that we could fix up as opposed to buying new.
Vintage has always been something I have been drawn to, and most of the time, the vintage pieces are of higher quality then what is mass produced today.I love good design wether it be in architecture or a piece of furniture. I like simple and well built pieces and am drawn to the early modern movement. Tarpin Vintage has become a collection of the pieces I find in my travels that are appealing to me.

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome Matt of Carolina WDWRX (short for woodworks!) to his first Vintage Charlotte Market. Carolina WDWRX specializes in custom, original woodworking, right here in Charlotte, NC. Here is Matt from Carolina WDWRX with a little about childhood, inspiration and working alongside dad:
Growing up, I spent many a Saturday morning holding boards, steadying ladders, driving nails, and cleaning up sawdust for my dad’s various projects. While at the time, I probably would have preferred to watch cartoons or go back to bed, the skills I picked up along the way from my dad have proven to be invaluable.Today, I gets the privilege of working alongside my dad in making the Carolina WDWRX items you’ll see at the market. Continuing to glean from my dad’s vast knowledge of woodworking (and occasionally even getting to teach him a thing or two!) not only allows us to deliver top notch quality items, but to pass on what is truly becoming a lost art. Our inspiration is nature, preferring when possible to keep the original aesthetic of the wood. You’ll rarely see any heavily stained / dyed wood, and we keep the live/natural edges intact whenever possible. We blend that raw / natural aesthetic with modern/industrial elements to create pieces that we hope will exceed your expectations for form and function.
Live Edge Cherry Block Desk Lamp
This lamp is made from a block of Cherry wood from a tree downed in Charlotte during Hurricane Hugo in 1989, which was cut by chainsaw by my father. The wood has been drying in storage in for almost 27 years. The block is roughly 2 inches thick, and left in it’s natural color, with only semi gloss polyurethane applied for protection. Featuring a vintage style “Edison” bulb, and a telecaster style on / off knob.

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome back Jody of Flytrap Clothing to the Vintage Charlotte Summer Market. Flytrap makes clothing inspired by the natural world and screenprinted by hand in their backyard workshop. Here is Jody from Flytrap reflecting on her inspiration for her garments:
Like most people, I rented a lot of houses and apartments in my 20s, and I moved a LOT. For about ten years, I was constantly either packing or unpacking. Every year when spring came, I already knew I’d be somewhere else in August, but I would get so overwhelmed with excitement at the changing season that I’d plant a really robust garden anyway. Tomatoes, cucumber, herbs, and annual flowers seemed to be non-negotiable, but by the time the tomatoes were really coming in, I’d be living somewhere else, driving by to look at them and wishing someone would pick them. I’d promise myself I wasn’t going to spend money planting a garden the following year, but every year I would.
So of course when we bought our house in 2012, I immediately put in a bed of perennials out behind my workshop. I will never forget the first plant I saw emerge that following spring. It was a sedum. It was both fragile and strong at the same time, pale green and fat, and the sight of that delicate floret emerging from the soil after the horrendous winter absolutely electrified me. A garden I wouldn’t have to re-plant, or abandon?! I’ll never forget it. That was the year I really started honing in on the botanical side of my brand and I’ve run with it ever since.

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome Sara of Original Brooks to her first Vintage Charlotte Market. We just love these beautiful hand-sewn notebooks and can’t wait to see them in person at the Summer Market, here is Sara with a little about her process:
Primarily self-taught as a bookbinder, I learned the fine craft of bookbinding while studying photography at the University of Oklahoma. But it was not until moving to Asheville in 2011 that my interest in bookmaking became serious. My bookmaking practice combines traditional bookbinding techniques and a modern approach to design. My handmade books incorporate vintage materials with clean designs. I am inspired by mid-century modern furniture and architecture and 1970’s floral motifs.
My books are hand-sewn, limited edition runs made from vintage paper and fabrics. I love the thrill of the hunt for a good bargain! Buying materials for my books is an excuse to go to thrifting. I can find interesting paper and cool vintage fabrics inexpensively. Using recycled materials not only make my books very unique (often one-of-a-kind) but also affordable for my customers. I feel good knowing that I am conserving resources and often saving materials bound for the landfill. For instance, I found a huge box of old, dated church programs that had no real use anymore. I was able to salvage part of the paper and create about 50 notebooks. I love the challenge of looking at a material and figuring out a creative re-use for it.

Leading up to the market, we’ll be sharing vendor spotlight posts that give you a chance to meet some of our amazing vendors in advance of the market. We are really excited to welcome Amanda and Paul of EDIA Maps to their first Vintage Charlotte Market. We just love the fun and informative maps that EDIA is bringing with them to market, here is Amanda with the story behind the adventures:We’re a two-person, map-making team of North Carolinians comprised of myself (Amanda Fisher) and Paul Bright. We’re the makers of the Great NC BBQ Map, Great NC Beer Map, and Charlotte Adventure Map.
For both of us, travel and discovery are our passions. We both love to road-trip around the US and explore the huge world we live in, but we maintain our spirit of adventure no matter where we are. It’s so easy to fall into a routine at home and do the same things with your spare time, but you can discover so much more when you approach your hometown and home state like a traveler would. That’s really the whole idea of EDIA. It’s an acronym that stands for “Every Day Is an Adventure,” something that became a motto for us years ago.
We live in such a beautiful and diverse state that we really believe every part of NC has something to offer. One thing we love about our maps is that they get you into parts of the state that you might not normally visit — those backroads, small towns, and forgotten neighborhoods — and visiting those places has given us a much deeper understanding and love for our state.
The idea of map-making really grew out of a shared love for travel, maps, travel guides and memorabilia. We both wanted to more fully integrate travel into our lifestyle and work. One day the map-making idea just clicked, and we realized what a perfect fit it was for both of us, Paul the cartographer, and me the creative force. And because of how much we use maps and travel guides, we see all that’s missing from that genre and have so many ideas for what can be done there.
We really do feel that adventure can be found anywhere. Discovery is the biggest thing for us when traveling. Even though you might have a destination in mind, there’s always unexpected surprises along the way if you give yourself time to pay attention and uncover them.
